Gregory Edwards: Grammy Nominated Music Producer

“A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men (KJV); Proverbs 18:16. For Grammy-nominated Music Producer Gregory Edwards, his gifts have positioned him to work with some of the biggest and most recognizable artists to date. Singer, songwriter Faith Evans, Mali Music, HER; he’s worked with a plethora of artists including singer Keyshia Cole, gospel artists Kim Burrell and Kierra Sheard. With musical talents developed in his early childhood, Gregory has performed in front of thousands and sold-out arenas. His multifaceted gifts have positioned him to play keyboard for Grammy winning artists such as Jonathan McReynolds and co-produce Grammy nominated songs such as Jhene Aiko’s “Tryna Smoke” ft. Snoop Dogg and Chris Brown.

With a talented musical range and perfect pitch, Gregory has become well versed with the world of music. At the age of 7, Gregory began singing and playing instruments while traveling to mega churches. He and the other members of his all-male group performed for crowds of all sizes. “It was 11 boys singing 3-part harmony,” said Gregory. Put together by his aunt, the group also included Gregory’s brothers who went on to play drums for the late, Great Nipsey Hussle and produce Grammy award winning songs for famous singer Bruno Mars. Gregory grew up in a single parent household. Born and raised in California; his mom raised 8 kids as his father was in and out of jail. Born with scoliosis, spina bifida, and one kidney, Gregory described his childhood as rough. Growing up, he dealt with the ridicule of kids around him, which he described as real, scary, embarrassing. “I know God has anointed me; He has chosen me. That's why I have been through so much, said Edwards. “As a kid, I saw myself going somewhere’’.

While sitting in a recording studio, Edwards reflected on just how far his career has come. “I’ve been a professional musician for 20 years” he said during his exclusive interview with LUL Magazine. The music producer found early success landing his first job as a church organ player at the age of fourteen. He later began to produce at the age of 16. “My brother Dwyane Madison introduced me to producing. I came to his house one day and he was like “Hey! Let's make some music”. Ever since that day, I fell in love with music; the rest is kind of history after that”.

As he began to learn the ins and outs of producing, Gregory soon landed the opportunity to work with singer John B., Julian Marley (son of Bob Marley) and rapper Young Joc as some of his first clients. His musical gifts continue to place him in great rooms as he’s even worked with Jordin Sparks, and gospel artist Shante Atkins. During our interview, Greg recalled times in his career where he was discouraged but kept going. “I remember how God has been good to me”. With ambition to achieve new levels as a Christian with a fresh approach to music, Greg released an EP entitled “All God” in 2017. Greg’s talented future continues to be promising as he works towards even more goals. He recently co-produced “Jump Ship” featuring Jonathan McReynolds and Mali Music, a song with a modern yet hip Caribbean vibe, full of inspiration. “My desire is to be CEO of a record label. I want to call it “Cathedral Music” …a fully decked out studio with platinum artists and moguls”.
